Convention Attractions

NYSSBA Member Lounge (located in the Conference Center, Level 2, Edelweiss)
Hours: Thursday 1:00 – 3:15 p.m., Friday 8:00 – 5:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. - Noon
Visit the NEW NYSSBA Member Lounge and meet your friendly knowledgeable NYSSBA staff as well as the newly formed Member Relations Team.
Also new this year – The NYSSBA Genius Bar - You supply the questions; we’ll supply the answers and beverages (non-alcoholic of course!).
Gather around the Genius Bar and let the NYSSBA staff answer your toughest questions on policy, advocacy, training and more. The Genius Bar will be open on Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Can’t make it on Friday? Feel free to stop by the NYSSBA Member Lounge at your convenience and someone will be ready to assist you with your questions.
  • Your NYSSBA Governmental Relations representatives will be eager to speak with you and demonstrate NYSSBA’s Action Center, an online advocacy portal to connect with your legislators and distribute your district specific, per student state aid summary.
  • The Policy Services Team will be happy to discuss NYSSBA’s policy products and services.
  • Learn all about what our Leadership Development team has to offer from state-mandated training to Custom Board Retreats.

Relax in the comfort of our technology lounge while enjoying picturesque views of the Adirondack Mountains. Check emails, recharge mobile devices or check out the latest NYSSBA News.
And most importantly enjoy a cup of coffee at the Coffee-to-go Stations conveniently located within the technology lounge.

Student Art Exhibit (located in the Conference Center, Level 2, Hall of Fame)
Be inspired by the K-12 art from across the state. The Student Art Show is sponsored by NYSSBA and the New York State Teachers Association.

NYSSBA’s Convention App  (Now Available)
The Convention App is now available from the App Store or Google Play.

New for 2017, NYSSBA’s convention app is available through the AttendeeHub app.

3 Easy Steps:
  1. Uninstall last year’s app from your device.
  2. Download AttendeeHub from the App Store or Google Play.
  3. Open the app and search for NYSSBA’s 98th Annual Convention & Education Expo.

Please Note: Prior to Convention, you will receive an email with log-in credentials. Log-in to provide survey feedback, create a personalized schedule, take notes, message other attendees or make personal contacts.

Charging Stations
Need a charge for your mobile device? Charging stations will be available in the Technology Lounge located in the Conference Center, Level 3, Lookout Gallery and the NYSSBA Member Lounge located in the Conference Center, Level 2, Edelweiss. While you’re there, recharge yourself with a cup of coffee at the Coffee-to-go Stations conveniently located within the Technology Lounge.

NYSSBA Committees
NYSSBA has formed the Resolutions, Awards and Cultural Diversity Committees to provide guidance for those particular initiatives. These committees also allow our members the opportunity to participate, work side by side with the Association, and to advise on issues, and set positions and guidelines for the organization’s activities.

President’s Award
The NYSSBA President’s Award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to state public education. Each year, the current NYSSBA President presents the recipient with the award during the Annual Convention & Education Expo Opening Session.

Everett R. Dyer Award
This award is made annually to a present or former school board member who has given exceptionally dedicated service to the public school children of New York State. Presented to an individual member, the award is a means of showing appreciation to all school board members and encouraging them to aspire to the highest ideals of school boardsmanship. Selection of the award recipient is made by the Distinguished Service Award Committee.

Convention Record
NYSSBA hosted its first Annual Convention & Education Expo in Utica in 1920. Since then, the Convention has moved around the state. Take a look at the Convention Record to learn where each Convention was held and who served as NYSSBA’s President that year.

Champion for Change Award
This award is presented annually to a current school board member, who, in the judgment of the NYSSBA Awards Committee, should be recognized for innovative and ethical leadership that brought about ground-breaking improvements in school district programs and operations.  The NYSSBA Champion for Change is a champion for children who fosters creative change that enriches educational opportunities and improves academic results. Each year a special selection criteria changes to represent an outstanding person(s).
