Join us as we open Convention with an acknowledgement of the NYSSBA Board of Directors, Past Presidents and other special guests. Hear from NYSSBA President Peggy Zugibe as well as the leadership of other public education organizations. Watch the presentations of the 2021 and 2022 Everett R. Dyer Award for Distinguished School Board Service, the President’s Award and Teacher of the Year.

Finally, experience a performance by Frank Waln. Rooted in a deep legacy of Indigenous storytelling through song and creative expression, award-winning Lakota presenter and performer Frank Waln will help us say thank you to our school board members with a one-of-a-kind presentation that will ground us in our collective history as Americans and connect us all to our past, present and future.

NYSSBA Committees
NYSSBA has formed the Resolutions, Awards and Cultural Diversity Committees to provide guidance for those initiatives. These committees also allow our members the opportunity to participate, work side by side with the Association, and to advise on issues, and set positions and guidelines for the organization’s activities.

President’s Award
The NYSSBA President’s Award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to state public education. Each year, the current NYSSBA President presents the recipient with the award during the Annual Convention and Education Expo Opening Session.

Everett R. Dyer Award
This award is made annually to a present or former school board member who has given exceptionally dedicated service to the public school children of New York State. Presented to an individual member, the award is a means of showing appreciation to all school board members and encouraging them to aspire to the highest ideals of school boardsmanship. Selection of the award recipient is made by the Distinguished Service Award Committee.

Convention Record
